Productivity Commission Inquiry into Human ServicesGeneral, Government, Industry
The Australian Association of Massage Therapists has made a submission to the Productivity Commission into identifying sector for reform in the service to human services. The Commission is examining the current supply arrangements and future trends, including the scope for user choice, diversity in provision, and contestability in supply by government, not-for-profit and private sector providers. The Association has brought to the attention of the Commission, the anti-competitiveness of payment for services in the treatment and of musculoskeletal and chronic conditions across the range of providers including massage, myotherapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic. Recommendations around a patient centred focussed service that allows clients freedom of choice over a service provider that will affect future trends in demand for services have been made as we as reforms intended to introduce greater competition and user choice, both in Australia and internationally.
