AAMT and Myotherapy Association Australia identify opportunities for collaboration

A recent industry development planning meeting consisting of the Presidents and CEOs of Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT) and Myotherapy Association Australia (formerly IRMA) sought to identify opportunities for collaboration and reciprocation.

Amongst a number of agenda items, important issues such as continuing professional development, the recent Review of the Australian Government Rebate on Natural Therapies for Private Health Insurance, expanding the evidence base and improved association governance were discussed during the meeting.

Presidents Paul McCann (AAMT) and Anna Yerondais (Myotherapy Association) agreed that this meeting laid a very solid foundation for ongoing collaboration. ‘We have far more in common than we sometimes care to acknowledge. It is critical that we work collaboratively for the betterment of the whole industry’ said AAMT President, Paul McCann.

This is the first of many anticipated meetings between these two industry associations. ‘Our two organisations have agreed in principle to continue to meet on a regular basis at the most senior level and to continue to keep the dialogue open. There is far more we can achieve collaboratively than competitively, said Myotherapy Association Australia President, Anna Yerondais.

One of the most simple, yet powerful outcomes from the meeting was the agreed reciprocal recognistion of industry activities and professional development events. ‘This was really a no-brainer and will only ensure that all practitioners become alerted to some of the great professional development that both organisations offer said Nello Marino, CEO Myotherapy Association Australia.

In the future it is anticipated that AAMT and Myotherapy Association Australia will identify more areas for collaboration and potentially partnership. ‘Like many allied health associations there are ever increasing challenges and expectations and a closer working relationship between our respective organisations will only better place us to deal with these’ said AAMT CEO, Tricia Hughes.
